Updates for women and children

If you have been watching the news (or seeing information on Instagram), you might have seen some of these news updates:

  • New SIDS study

  • AAP recommends breastfeeding for 2 years or more

  • Maternal morbidity rates rise during COVID

  • PPMAD rates rise since COVID

It can be a little overwhelming, and tough to understand all of this. What does it mean? And more importantly, what does it mean for you and your family?

Well, the first step is to have a provider you trust, who is up to date on current studies, changes in medicine and really a passionate learner and curious practitioner. Having someone that isn’t just your Doctor, but your advocate, your team leader and a knowledgeable provider.

How can you find a wonderful provider like this? Start by thinking about what this means to you. Do you want someone who functions primarily in the allopathic medical system? Is your focus on medicines and keeping your life the way it is? Or are you looking for something more natural? Are you open to learning and hearing about nutrition and lifestyle changes? Knowing what you want will guide you.

Once you know what you want, you can start researching providers, asking for recommendations and seeing who you can talk to about this journey you are one. Because that’s what our health is, a journey towards optimal health and wellness.

The last 18 months I have been on my own health journey and it’s far from over. I have chronic pain issues and those have led me to working with a dietician, do food allergy/sensitivity testing, changed my diet- again, again and again! I have truly learned how food can be my medicine, or my poison! This journey of mine is only just started, and I am excited for all the things to come. It will be amazing. I hope your health journey is just a wonderful and brings you to wonderful places.
